Rewiring Your Brain for ‘What If It All Goes Right?’

Why is it that we default to thinking about worst-case scenarios? Why do our brains automatically jump to “What if it all goes wrong?” instead of “What if it all goes right?”

This week, we’re diving into why our brains are wired for negativity, how that survival mechanism no longer serves us, and—most importantly—how we can retrain our minds to focus on what’s actually going RIGHT.

Why We Default to ‘What If It All Goes Wrong’

We’ve all been there—waiting for something big to happen, but instead of trusting the process, our minds spiral into every possible way things could go wrong. And it’s not just you.

Our brains are literally wired for survival, not happiness.

This is called the negativity bias, and it’s a leftover trait from our ancestors. Back in the day, scanning for threats (like saber-toothed tigers) kept us alive. But today? That same mechanism keeps us trapped in a loop of fear, self-doubt, and worst-case scenario thinking.

Studies show that negative events impact us more than positive ones. In fact, it takes three to five positive experiences to counteract just one negative one. This is why you’ll replay an awkward moment from five years ago, but you’ll brush off ten amazing things that happened today.

But here’s the best part—we can change this.

Just like training a muscle, we can train our minds to focus on the best-case scenario instead of the worst. And when we do, we start attracting the very things we desire—because we’re no longer operating from a place of fear.

So, how do we do it? Let’s break it down.


How to Rewire Your Brain for ‘What If It All Goes Right’

1. Pause & Question the Thought

Before spiraling, stop and ask yourself:

  • Is this fear based on fact or assumption?
  • Am I actually in danger, or is my brain just trying to protect me?
  • How would I advise a friend who was thinking this way?

Awareness is the first step. Catch yourself, pause, and question the thought.

2. Flip the Scenario

Instead of asking, “What if this goes wrong?” try:

  • What if this goes right?
  • What if this challenge is actually setting me up for something better?
  • Even if the worst happens, how will I handle it? (Because guess what? You will.)

3. Track What’s Already Going Right

If your brain needs three to five positive experiences to outweigh one negative, then let’s give it what it needs.

Every night, write down:
✔️ One thing that went well today
✔️ One way you showed up for yourself
✔️ One thing you’re proud of

This retrains your brain to actively seek what’s going right.

4. Visualize the Best-Case Scenario

Your brain doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination. This is why elite athletes visualize success before it happens.

Take five minutes to close your eyes and see yourself:
✅ Nailing that presentation
✅ Crushing your first pull-up
✅ Achieving your goal with ease and confidence

Make it so real in your mind that your brain starts believing it’s inevitable.

5. Remind Yourself: You’ve Handled Hard Things Before

Look back at everything you’ve overcome. Those moments where you thought, “I won’t get through this,” but you did.

If you’ve handled tough things before, you can handle this. Period.
