I am retiring from Ninja Warrior..

I have some big news to share with you all. Last week, I made the decision not to submit for American Ninja Warrior this year. After six amazing seasons of competing, I decided that this chapter of my life has closed. So, in today’s newsletter, I want to reflect on my Ninja Warrior endeavors, what I’ve learned, and what’s next for me.

So many of you ask me, “Angela, how did you even get on to American Ninja Warrior? What was that process like?” The truth is, it was a total accident. My friend was trying out for the show, and I didn’t want to step on her toes and try out also. But someone else said, “Angela, you would be perfect!” After a ton of convincing, I decided to make a video. You can watch it here if you’re curious: Watch my ANW audition video.

I then randomly got called a few weeks later saying, “YOU ARE ON AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR.” I remember thinking it was a spam number and being in disbelief that I got on!

I was NOT trained in Ninja, so I literally had a short time to just “figure it out”… 

After competing, I was HOOKED. I started training at local ninja gyms and was so ready to crush it on the course the next year...

Until…

I didn’t get selected for seasons 7, 8, or 9. I almost wanted to give up. Then, season 10, it was GO time. I GOT selected and was NOT going to hold back.

I got to the course confident, ready, strong… and just as I was about to become a top female, I tore my ACL on the course, in front of everyone, going from the strongest I have ever been to the WEAKEST in a matter of seconds. 

I learned a lot from this moment. I felt worthless. I was placing my worth on ALL external factors, and without those things, I felt lost.

It wasn’t until I started to lean into this as a GROWTH opportunity that I realized I am SO much more than JUST my body, than JUST my career.

I worked my ass off to come back seven months later after surgery and realized when I got to the course that it didn’t matter what happened because I had already won.

I went on to compete in other seasons. The sport started to change a lot, and each year I’ve been doing it, I’ve been excited but haven’t felt as passionate about it.

I competed in Season 16 last year and didn’t do great, but I saw my friend CRUSH the course, and that was enough for me. 

This year, I am ready to start a new chapter, and I want to share some new goals with you! (If you know anyone who can help me achieve these, let me know.)

Speaker: I have been speaking on large stages for years now, but I am ready to make a huge appearance and debut! I speak on the “What if it all goes right” topic, where I share my ninja journey and give practical takeaways to teach others to lean into adversity to become the strongest version of themselves. My next goal is to speak on massive stages, at corporations, and create a massive impact.

Pull-Up Revolution & Coaching Program: I will continue to provide the BEST programs for my amazing clients. My goal is to get thousands of women their pull-up and help them become the strongest version of themselves, inside and out

Run a 5k: Running has ALWAYS been something I dreaded. I am so ready to train to do a 5k for ME vs. Me! I want to show myself that something I have really felt horrible about is something I can conquer.

Finish My Book: I’ve been writing a book, and I am so ready to get it to take flight.

Press Handstands: I want to keep working on cool handstand variations and aero yoga.

I know I am meant for big things. I know I am meant to continue to impact and help people all over the world, and I am so excited for this next level version of myself.
