Flipping Out on Stage 🀸🏻‍♀️

So, how did I randomly start coaching someone to flip on a stage when I am a pull-up coach and speaker, and not technically a “flipping coach”?

Well, I got tagged in a post from @amyjomartin saying she was looking for a “flipping coach” in Austin, TX. As soon as I saw it, I just KNEW I had to message her immediately and dig deeper. I wanted to know: what kind of flip? Where are you doing it? How long do you have to get it? After chatting, we decided it would be best to meet up at her house to start the journey.

So, we met up IRL, and we immediately hit it off. As two high-achieving women with high energy, always wanting to be creative and embrace new challenges, I quickly realized that this wasn’t just going to be a "teach you how to flip and see you later” opportunity. This was going to be a lifelong friendship. Amy speaks at tons of conferences, is a CEO of a company called Renegade Global, a mom, and with all those responsibilities, it can be tough to get out of “work mode” and into your body. Maybe you, dear reader, are reading this and thinking, "same!"

Building a Foundation πŸ‘·πŸ»‍♀️

We started with the basics: getting her comfortable with movements like handstands to ensure she felt secure upside down. We also mapped out other moves to complement her presentation. And we had so much fun doing it!

Then came the flipping part. We had essentially 90 days to make this happen, while she also had to practice her talk and handle all of life's responsibilities. But what's great is that when you have a deadline, (or what Amy likes to call “Lifelines,”) it makes the end goal that much more real. She knew she had to work hard at it, just like she does with everything else, and now getting in her movement became even more of a priority.

Each week, I would show up, and we would progress a little more. We were doing this all in her living room, by the way! Then it was time for me to step aside and let her do it on her own.

When she landed it, we both burst out dancing! The adrenaline, the feeling of working hard at something so new and achieving it was priceless. But what we both realized when we got to the conference itself was that getting the flip and doing it on stage wasn’t actually the best part. The best part was the journey: showing up each day, pushing through the days where she felt like maybe she wasn’t making progress but continuing anyway, the accountability she had to start moving her body in a new way, the freedom she felt when she just focused on herself and her body for those spurts of time.

It truly translated into all areas of her life. It made her show up differently in all areas of her life. So, after we both reflected on this journey, we decided that it doesn’t stop here. Stay tuned because Amy Jo Martin and I have so much more we are excited to do! πŸ‘€

Lessons Learned πŸ‘©πŸ»‍🏫

1. Embrace New Challenges:

Taking on something new can be daunting, but stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to unexpected growth and joy. Just like Amy, sometimes saying "yes" to a new challenge can open doors to lifelong friendships and personal achievements.

2.The Power of Deadlines:

Deadlines, or “Lifelines” as Amy calls them, create a sense of urgency and focus. They help you prioritize and stay committed, turning a distant goal into a tangible reality.

3. The Journey Matters:

While reaching the goal is rewarding, the journey is where the true magic happens. The daily dedication, small victories, and even the setbacks teach you resilience and make the final achievement even more meaningful.
