Last week, I hit a roadblock.
You know that feeling when you pour your heart and soul into something, and it doesn’t go the way you envisioned? That was me. I had high hopes for a new project and couldn’t wait to see the impact it would have. But it just didn’t land the way I imagined.
For a moment, I felt defeated. That old voice of doubt crept in, whispering, “Maybe this isn’t going to work. Maybe you’re not enough.”
But here’s the thing: I’ve been here before. And I’ve learned that these moments aren’t the end of the story—they’re just the start of a new chapter.
I thought back to a moment in my gymnastics days that taught me how to shift my perspective.
During one competition, I went for a big move—a double backflip on the bars—and completely wiped out. It was the kind of fall that makes the entire gym go silent. I felt embarrassed, defeated, and like I wanted to disappear.
But before I could even process the fall, Coach Bob appeared by my side with a huge grin on his face. “That was a great fall!” he said enthusiastically.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “A great fall? I just ate the mat!”
But he wasn’t joking. “That fall means you’re pushing your limits,” he said. “You’re trying something hard, something new. That’s the only way you’re going to grow.”
That moment stuck with me. And every time I face a challenge—whether it’s in gymnastics, business, or life—I remind myself of that lesson: falling forward means you’re in the game, and every fall brings you closer to success.
This past week, I gave myself the same pep talk Coach Bob gave me all those years ago.
I realized that falling isn’t failing. It’s proof that you’re trying, learning, and moving forward. It’s okay to feel frustrated when things don’t go as planned, but what matters most is what you do next:
I chose to fall forward.
One of the most powerful tools we have is how we choose to see the challenges we face.
I attended a lecture recently where an Olympic athlete shared this advice: “Failing is part of the process, but you need a short-term memory for it.”
Feel the failure. Learn from it. Then let it go and move forward.
Every fall holds a lesson. Every setback is an opportunity to grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient.
