Picture this: It’s 3 a.m. I’m at my mom’s house in New Jersey, about to head back to Austin after a short trip. I’m in that weird pre-flight daze—barely slept, running on autopilot, and lugging a suitcase stuffed with gifts (because, of course, I had to sit on it to close it).
The airport is 50 minutes away, and my stepdad Rob is driving me. But to make things even more interesting, there’s a massive sinkhole on the highway. So it’s taking a lot longer.
As we’re driving, my stomach suddenly starts doing cartwheels. Now, let me just say—I don’t usually have stomach issues, so I chalked it up to stress or dehydration. But then it got worse. And worse. My stomach started making noises loud enough to compete with the car radio 😳
I’m sweating, clenching everything, panicking in my seat, and finally, I have to say it:
“Rob… we have a problem.”
At this point, it’s 3 a.m., nothing is open, and we’re about 10 minutes from the airport. I’m this close to resigning myself to the side of the highway. But Rob says, “You’ve got this—we’re almost there.”
When we finally get near the airport, the line to my terminal is unbelievably long, but I spot another terminal with a bathroom sign. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
“I’m getting out here!” I yell. I hop out, jump over a barrier, and sprint like my life depends on it. Let’s just say… relief finally came.
But my adventure wasn’t over. I had to find my way back to the right terminal, which meant hopping on an air tram that, naturally, went in the opposite direction. After 30 minutes of chaos, I reunited with Rob, got my stuff, and finally made it to my flight—only for it to be delayed three hours because of a broken windshield wiper 🙄
That story? It’s ridiculous, right? But here’s the thing:
We’ve all had those moments where everything feels like it’s going wrong, and we’re convinced we won’t make it. Yet somehow, we adapt. We figure it out.
Those “oh 💩” moments aren’t just about surviving—they’re about learning to thrive under pressure.
Why Some People Break and Others Don’t
Here’s the truth:
Some people break under pressure. They panic, shut down, or give up. But others find a way to keep going.
So what’s the difference? It’s all about how you approach the moment.
In my keynote, I talk about a framework to help you not just get through these moments but grow because of them. Here’s a sneak peek:
1️⃣ Pause and Assess: Take a breath (even if it feels impossible). Assess the situation and remind yourself that you’re capable of figuring this out.
2️⃣ Adapt to What You Can Control: Focus on what you can do right now. For me, it was finding the nearest bathroom and jumping into action—literally.
3️⃣ Shift Your Mindset: Instead of spiraling into frustration or panic, ask, “How can I make this work?” That slight shift in mindset makes all the difference.
4️⃣ Take the Next Step: It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just keep moving forward.
5️⃣ Reflect and Learn: Once you’re through it, take a moment to reflect. What worked? What didn’t? What did this teach you about yourself?
Whether you’re a corporate leader, a mom juggling a million things, or working on your fitness goals, you’re going to have moments where it feels like everything is falling apart.
But remember this:
💡 You are stronger than the pressure.
💡 You can adapt and figure it out.
💡 These moments don’t define you—they refine you.
1️⃣ Chaos will happen—but you are built to adapt.
2️⃣ Your mindset in those moments determines your outcome.
3️⃣ Small steps forward lead to big wins over time.

When life throws you an “oh 💩” moment, don’t let it break you. Pause, adapt, and keep moving forward. You’ve got this.
