Happy Monday!
Today, I want to talk about something that's often seen as a stumbling block, but can actually be a stepping stone on your path to success: failure.
We live in a society that often places too much emphasis on success and winning, and very little on the journey it takes to get there.
But the truth is, failure is an integral part of growth and achievement. As an American Ninja Warrior and coach of the Pull-up Revolution, I've seen countless women transform their lives by conquering their first pull-up. And guess what? None of them got it on the first try.
Failure teaches us invaluable lessons, helps us to recalibrate our strategies, and builds resilience like nothing else. It's in those moments of struggle that we truly find out what we're made of.
I recently took an improv class, and it had me thinking—why don't we celebrate our failures more often?
In that class, we were encouraged to...
I missed the deadline.
I'm getting real with you today.
I missed a huge deadline last week...to be in the Wall Street Journal article all about pull-ups!
The article is crushing it, by the way!
You see, when these reporters message you, they want you to give them info NOW, and their deadlines are always like...yesterday.
I am so disappointed. By the the time I gave her my two cents for the article, it was too late.
Another missed opportunity.
Another moment I felt disappointed in myself.
This would have been a HUGE opportunity, because this is what I do! I help women conquer the "unicorn" movement, the pull-up.
I told my boyfriend how upset I was with myself, and that if only I had my shit together, I wouldn't miss out on opportunities. Like this.
He said, "what has to change for that to not happen again?"
He told me to sit in my frustrations so that I can make some changes.
I know that a big reason I have been missing these opportunities is because I am spending so much time in...
Yes, you heard me right! I met Ginny MacColl years ago when I was competing in local ninja warrior competitions and she has always inspired me. She got her first pull-up at the age of 63!!! And she competed on the most recent Ninja Warrior Competition! Check her out here!
I am pumped that she will be the special guest in my next FREE online Pull-up Workshop on Sunday August 20th! Together with the legendary Ginny MacColl (American Ninja Warrior's oldest competitor at 71 years young!), we'll be diving deep into the world of pull-ups, sharing our knowledge, and empowering you to take charge of your fitness journey.
What I love so much about Ginny is that she is living proof that it's NEVER too late to start a new goal. No matter how "impossible" it may seem. She still competes in local ninja competitions, swims, and is always open to trying something new and getting started. So if you are looking for a sign to get started on your Pull-up Journey or really any journey! This...
Today, I want to address a common misconception that holds many people back, and an I've been hearing it A LOT lately: it's the belief that you must wait until you're strong enoughSound familiar? Even if doesn't, here are some other similar relatable thoughts...
"I'll start mediating when I am less anxious"
"I'll start working out more consistently when I have more energy"
"I'll start taking care of myself after I take care of everyone else"
"I'll put the oxygen mask on everyone else first, and then put it on myself..."
"I'll eat healthier when I have more time"
How about any of those?
Here's the hard truth of all of the above: they are all excuses
You don't need to wait until you have upper-body strength or wait until you hit a certain weight or until you have the perfect body to start working on your pull-up today! You can start working towards it in the body you currently have...
And here's why...
You will get a stronger upper-body while you are working on your...
Today, I want to address a topic that many of us may have encountered on our fitness journey – the frustration of not seeing progress with our pull-ups or desired body transformations (abs etc)…
Let's be honest... it can be extremely disheartening when we put in the effort, sweat, and dedication, yet feel like we're not getting any closer to our goals. But before we get discouraged, let's take a moment to reframe our perspective and focus on the essentials.
First and foremost, it's crucial to recognize that progress encompasses more than just the numbers on the scale or the number of pull-ups you can do.
Second... what I am noticing is that for a lot of you who ARE putting in the work, it’s not the workouts that are holding you back from progress, it’s the other stuff, and they aren’t the “sexiest” or “coolest” things or the next workout fad or diet craze.
Let's delve deeper into why stress management, sleep, and protein intake...
This week, let's talk about the epic importance of eating right to fuel your way to pull-up domination and see/feel results in your body! Because I am seeing that A LOT of you ladies are under-fueling, which is not allowing you to see the strength gain you want for your pull-up AND not allowing you to see that tight toned body you are looking for.
So let's DIVE in!
Proper nutrition plays a key role in your journey to pull-up success. Not fueling your body adequately can hinder your progress and leave you feeling like floppy as a noodle on the bar (and just in general)
Enter protein, the mighty superhero in your nutritional arsenal.
Ladies, protein is your secret weapon for building and repairing those mighty muscles. It's like the construction crew that swoops in, repairs the damage, and builds your strength to superhero levels.
With the right amount of protein, you'll be smashing pull-ups like a boss! And your body will be looking and feeling like a million bucks
Now, here's...
This week I had the pleasure of speaking to over 100 women at a National Sorority Convention in Washington DC.
I talked about how to get super clear on your dream life, and then gave them tools to persist when things go wrong. Because let's face it... the majority of the time, things actually DO go wrong.
I wanted to share a few nuggets from my talk so that hopefully they motivate you to keep persisting and shift your mindset fro negative to positive!
It's OKAY if you feel like shit because at the end of the day, we are HUMAN and you need to feel whatever it is that you are feeling. Something that helped me a ton was to write it out in my journal, which is a great place where you can say it all (even if it sound crazy)!
I taught them a few different tools they can use. First, write out the negative thought, then ask yourself, "is this really true?"
Finally, write out who you would be if you didn't have these...
I am turning 33 years old on Thursday
June 1, 1990 is my birthday and I cannot believe it what a YEAR it has been! So much has changed...
I have moved to a spot on the water, just like I had always dreamed of, I have an amazing boyfriend, and I am getting more and more organized in my business. A year ago, I really didn't think I would have any of these things.
Many don't know this, but I have pretty bad anxiety. I am a high achiever with high standards for myself and while that may be a good thing, it also can cause A LOT of anxiety because you never feel like you are doing enough, and you never feel like you ARE enough. But I am continuing to work on it!
1. Voice Recording
Last year, I created a voice recording of myself saying things as if they had already happened. It started off with saying "I am enough. I made it big. I have an amazing house on the water. I have an amazing boyfriend who cares about me. I impact...
Today's post is not about gnat catching
Luckily all the hacks from last week worked super well!
This week I have a few things on my mind:
So let's dive into the first one
Last week, I was pumped to go surfing with my friend Ashley Kidd. She's a 6x World Champion Wake Surfer and such a badass. I allowed myself to not work at all that morning! I got ready and headed to the boat on Lake Austin to spend the morning on the water. And it felt amazing to not only just be outdoors on the water, but I also was pumped to surf again and felt so in my element. I took a moment to appreciate that moment, because I want to hold onto that feeling and have it more...
